Team USA For IMMAF MMA World Championships!

St. Louis, MO – The United States Mixed Martial Arts Federation has announced the final roster for Team USA moving forward to the IMMAF Amateur MMA World Championships on July 5th through 10th and will be hosted at the Las Vegas Convention Center during the week, with the championships featured on July 10 at the UFC Fan Expo®. The IMMAF World Championships comprises of 40 countries and 259 athletes from around the globe vying to become the World Champion of Amateur MMA.

Athletes from all over the United States competed in Regional events to advance to the UMMAF National Championship Tournament in Scottsdale, Arizona in April for the right to move onto the World Championships. National Champions and a few runner-ups were selected based on their skills and willingness to compete on a high level and world stage. The IMMAF World Championships will see multiple days of fighting over 14 weight classes of intense competition in its 3rd year. Team USA is as follows:

Ashley Samples – Strawweight: -52.2 kg (115 lbs)
Tracy Cortez – Flyweight: -56.7 kg (125 lbs)
Taryn Conklin – Featherweight: -65.8 kg (145 lbs)

Carlos Hernandez and Damien Newman – Flyweight: -56.7 kg (125 lbs)
David Evans – Bantamweight: -61.2 kg (135 lbs)
Carlos Castro and Orlando Jimenez – Featherweight: -65.8 kg (145 lbs)
Sam Agushi – Lightweight: -70.3 kg (155 lbs)
Will Starks and Benjamin Bennett – Welterweight: -77.1 kg (170 lbs)
Irvin Jones and Dallas Jennings – Middleweight: -83.9 kg (185 lbs)
Gary Battle Jr. – Light Heavyweight: -93.0 kg (205 lbs)
Jason Simbro – Heavyweight: -120.2 kg (265 lbs)
Jonathan Bradberry – Super Heavyweight: +120.2 kg (+265 lbs)

Team USA looks to defend as medal count winners as it returns 3 defending World champions to the tournament. Ryan Brueggeman, UMMAF Director of Operations says, “The IMMAF World Championships is the pinnacle event for all amateurs in the sport of MMA. For these athletes in the United States, this event is generally an eye opener for them in terms of level of competition and can be used as a gauge to determine if they are ready or not for a pro career by pitting their skills against the best amateurs from across the globe.”

“This is truly the most diverse team we’ve had yet advancing to this tournament to compete.” says Brueggeman, “In previous years most fighters came from just a few gyms, however this year we have fighters from all over the country which speaks to the word getting out about UMMAF and its benefit to promoters and fighters willing to listen and think on a larger scale.”

Hosted by the global governing body for amateur MMA, the IMMAF’s third iteration of its prestigious five-day tournament, will air its post-event highlights on UFC FIGHT PASS®, along with other international television platforms.
