UMMAF 2017 National Championship Tournament Announced!

Date: January 23rd, 2017

UMMAF is pleased to announce the dates and location for the USA National Amateur MMA Championship Tournament for 2017! The tournament will be held in the beautiful historic city of Elizabethton, TN at Elizabethton High School, hosted by TN based promotion Valor Fights. Weigh-ins the evening of Thursday May 25th and competition running from May 26th through May 28th. This is an 8 athlete bracketed, random draw tournament. Winners of this tournament will be eligible to compete at the IMMAF Amateur MMA World Championships and will face competition from around the globe. Last year’s World Championship Tournament saw over 40 international teams compete.
For safety during amateur competition, fighters will wear shin and instep guards and will follow the Unified Amateur rules of MMA as established by IMMAF. These are the same rules and restrictions the winners will compete under during the World Championships. There will be certified medical personnel on-site in case of injury and transport to the nearest medical treatment facility available if needed. The tournament will be an 8 athlete bracketed, single elimination tournament over 14 weight classes with athletes competing with a max of once per day. Weight classes are as follows:

UMMAF shall provide inspectors to ensure compliance of hand wrapping procedures, equipment checks, and corner protocols. The tournament will take place in two fully staffed cages running simultaneously as needed. In addition to MMA and to make the tournament more value added to competitors, a Kickboxing/Thai tournament will be held in one cage beginning May 26th for eliminated MMA athletes (and others) who are deemed medically fit to compete.

There are two methods for entry into the tournament. The first method is to compete and win at a UMMAF sanctioned regional qualifier where you will be guaranteed a spot in the tournament, or by filling out the online tournament application on the UMMAF website at http://usammakif.org/nationals/ . Applicants will be notified when/if approval of the application is given. Entrance fee to the National Championship Tournament will be $100 for each athlete and must be paid by April 30th or your spot will be given to an athlete on the waiting list. All athletes competing must have a current UMMAF annual membership which is the standard $35 payable on the UMMAF website at http://usammakif.org/sign-up/ or at weigh-ins on May 25th.
